Donny's Ramblings

The Seduction of Barack Obama

We all just wanna be big rock stars, and live in hilltop mansions drivin’ fifteen cars.

__________

When I was producing pornography I had several means of recruiting…  I’d pay existing models for referrals.  I’d hand out business cards to girls I met in public.  I’d run ads in local newspapers:

MODELS NEEDED! Ages 18 & Up.  $500 per day. (Phone number). (Website address).

Nudity wasn’t mentioned.  Why not?  Because the girls I wanted wouldn’t respond if it was.  I specialized in first time, never before seen, girl next door types.

If I answered the phone when a prospective model called I knew exactly how to handle the conversation.  I guided her through it like a champ.  I’m not going to go into detail, but will instead leave it at this:  I addressed her concerns before she had a chance to voice them herself.  Why?  Because by doing so it felt as if I understood her.  It made me seem more “safe”.  Some of the things I said made it feel okay to just “go check things out” without obligation.

“I understand” is very powerful.  Identifying with someone goes a long way.

Once she arrived for her interview, I let the location do the selling: things were laid out in a very appealing manner.  A lifestyle was portrayed, and potential models painted themselves into it without much effort on my part.  “Porn can give me this?”

The unspoken reply?  “Yeah, baby, it can.”

Seduction is the process of deliberately enticing a person to engage in some sort of behavior. Nearly all of us like to be seduced in some way.

My style of recruiting was total seduction.  Which leads me to Barack Obama…

__________

Barack Obama is a master of seduction.  He draws us in.  He paints a picture for us… a picture we want to become a part of… and he sells that picture exceptionally well.

I want to believe that Barack Obama is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings with a single bound.

My gut tells me to vote for John McCain, but I want to be seduced.

Much can be accomplished by a Rock Star President, loved by countries around the world, who is the exact opposite of the boring 72 year old career politician he is running against.

As I learned in the adult world, if you make people FEEL good, they’ll do things they’ve never before considered.  And they’ll do it with a smile.

__________

Abortion is a big deal to me, but as one of my favorite Christian authors, Donald Miller, wrote on his blog early this morning, abortions decreased by 18% under Pro-Choice Bill Clinton.  I’d like to think the same type of results can happen with an Obama Presidency, because he has a plan in mind to reduce unwanted pregnancies.

Growing the economy from the ground up sounds very good to me.  When Barack Obama says the economy will grow when the poor have more money to buy the products marketed by the rich, I’d like to think he’s right.

I’d like to think Barack Obama is the right man for the job.

I like being seduced.

Do I go with my gut feeling, or do I vote for the hope of change?

__________

Tonight I sat down and marked my sample ballot with every choice I’ll be making tomorrow morning when I arrive at my polling place.

I’ve marked off the “yes” position beside Prop 2 because I think farm animals deserve the right to be able to turn around in their cages.

I’ve marked off the “yes” position beside Prop 8 because, while I have no objections to homosexual couples receiving visitation rights with sick partners and all the other legal benefits afforded married heterosexuals, I DO NOT think it’s fair, for instance, to ask the Boy Scouts to admit Girls into their club, and to bully them into doing so by throwing around words like “equality for all”.  Let them start their OWN club.  Let “marriage” remain between one man and one woman.  Like the Girl Scouts, “equality” can still be enjoyed even if the new club has a different name.

I’ve placed my mark of choice beside every proposition, beside the name of the man I’d like to have serve as my US Congressman, beside the name of the man I’d like to see as my State Assemblyman, and beside the names of those I’d like to see on my city council.

I’ve also marked off a position beside one of the two major candidates for President of the United States of America, and I’m at peace with my decision.

But I’m not telling you who I ultimately chose.

🙂

  1. Brilliant. Regardless of which candidate you vote for, I love the thinking, the honesty, the intelligence, and the passion you put into your choice. Too bad most Americans don’t do the same.

I just hope the lines aren’t too long tomorrow.

    Bill

  3. You are quite dramatic, as well as liking to be seduced. Shall we call you Donny Sarah-Bernhardt Pauling from now on? Sounds pretty good to me!

Congratulations on finally making your decision. One would think after all this time you’d be proud to announce it.

Also, I would think it’s a matter of character to resist seduction….

  5. XXXChurch.com can easily tell us what happens to some of the girls who are seduced by this type of smooth talk. Let us not be seduced by the smooth talk and what not. In any case whichever guy you chose, good job on voting and doing your part to make this country a better place.

  7. Will you (after the election) let everyone know who you eventually decided to vote for? I’ve been following your back-and-forth blogs for months and am curious on who you ultimately chose!

  9. Kari,

I’m not sure about that yet. To be honest, I’m a little tired of “taking the heat” from those who don’t like my political opinions and have been questioning whether or not it was a good deal to be so vocal about them.

    (Knowing me… I’ll likely end up talking. 🙂 )

Donny. This is YOUR blog. They are DONNY’S ramblings. I think that keeping silent is what’s gotten us collectively into such a huge mess. I don’t come here to read what I wish you would say or not say. I come here to read your thoughts. Sometimes I agree with them and sometimes I disagree. But I always appreciate the ability to read them, and I venture to say that most of your readers feel the same.

Putting your thoughts out there accomplishes two things: 1) If you’re right, you might cause someone else to see things the right way when they formerly saw them the wrong way, and 2) If you’re wrong, people can point out where you’re wrong and help you see things differently. That’s the beauty of blogging.

I think it’s fine to let people know who you voted for. Maybe you voted for my guy, maybe you didn’t. But if I’m going to get so worked up over your decision that I get angry and quit reading, am I really the sort of reader you wanted in the first place?

PS – This particular post was, by far, the most fascinating politically-related blog entry (by anyone) that I read all season, and I read a hell of a lot of them.

  15. Hey, now you know why us Real Estate agents like to spend so much time “scripting” and spend a lot of time on our presentations to eliminate as many of your questions as we can before you have a chance to deliver them….

It’s also why we try to explain that when selling your home, things that distract buyers like family photos, collections, and religious objects aren’t helpful.

The problem with the socialist rhetoric is that it always promotes short term solutions to long term problems, and for some reason, as short-term thinkers we tend to vote for those who promise us quick answers to these problems.

Socialist propaganda says that if we simply let the government take the money from the rich and give that money to the poor, everything will balance out and all will be well.

The problem is that if we understand what the real options are for the rich, we understand that simply not doing business, or exporting that money through “expenses” is always a legal and viable option to avoid the tax-man.

The problem also is that without fail every country that has tried socialism has seen a dramatic increase in government-dependency and unemployment rates, with the exception of the super-small countries like Sweden.

The reality is that, in order to help the little guy, the big guy has to be given the right incentives to help them. For example, tax-breaks and tax-credits for employing people if you want more people employed. Lower taxes on capital gains for investors who put their money in and end up being profitable – in fact having a dramatic expense (tax) for failure to reinvest their money, making it so they only pay when they finally cash out altogether. Higher taxes for industries that are problematic for our society (like porn and abortion) and lower taxes for those that are profitable to our society (like farming). In doing this, the government can drive money where it needs to go. The problem isn’t the profits, the problem is where and how those profits are derived. If there weren’t profits to be made, there wouldn’t be investment, and therefore there wouldn’t be hiring workers to leverage human power to accomplish the protit-making process altogether.

I will agree with anyone who says that we need to raise taxes – as long as it is kept to those industries that we are trying to destroy and drive elsewhere, like we have done with tobacco and like we could do with porn. I will agree that we should find ways of charging tarriffs on those products we don’t want imported to our country (because we don’t want it in our country but don’t have the guts to acually outlaw it) like generic drugs where a patent still exists in our country. It is better, in my opinion, to legalize something and tax the life out of it than to make something illegal (and thereby tax-free and desirable to our rebellious and wicked sinful nature).

Unfortunately, the same seduction of wealth, money, and power that has always seduced men and women since the temptation to be like god was offered is alone what can be manipulated for most people. That’s just how it is. The porn industry drew you in, Donny, by these temptations and you drew others in by it as well.

It actually takes a radical, non-human person (namely God) to force a person into subjection ot the Truth, though the Devil is right at hand with the deceptions he has laid out to draw you into some other kind of self-deification.

The seduction of Socialism (and Obama) is that the socialist (Obama and the Dems) can solve all your problems by taking (stealing) from one group and giving to another. In other words, you won’t really have to work, or suffer, or earn anything if you are poor, but he forgets to tell you that his actions will influence the rich to not see their efforts, earning, and all those things that make their lifestyle better than yours as worthwhile and desirable, and if they do, to see it as worthwhile where you are at.

What Obama and his kindred do is tell you (and me) that they’re going to resolve all these issues, when in fact the direction they are driving towards is inherently self-destructive. If they put their plans in place, they will immedately help you by taking from the rich and giving to you and me, forgetting to tell you that as they are doing that, the rich will start leaving town (or the country) so that there are no more rich people to take from which leaves only the poor to deal with the reality of poverty.

What Obama forgets to note is that he knows taxes will bankrupt various industries, and thereby drive away jobs, but thinks that somehow he can replace them without lowering taxes to bring the rich people back. What he forgets to note is that there are only two choices for who hires you: a private company or a government. What Obama forgets to tell you is that regulations are just like taxes – they have a cost attached and they drive away business as well – and your jobs as well.

Donny, a last note – the fact that abortion went down during the Clinton years had more to do with the fact that there was a Republican Congress than the Democratic president, though it appears the real reason is that our society was going through what appears to be the last of its conservative moves altogether. There was, for a short time, a belief in being a virgin before marriage.

Also, please note that the abortion rate has actually continued to decline. However, this is happening because the number of young girls (who make up over 70% of abortion patients) who are alive and able to have abortions has declined dramatically, either because of hinderances to abortion clinics through parent-notification laws and 48-hour wait times (something that also became more prominant do to the Supreme Court of Reagan during the Clinton era and since) as well as the reality that there are less girls overall who can have abortions. Like it or not, 1/3 of our generation does not exist because of abortion alone. Take that forward for a couple generations, and you can see that we’re down to about 1/2 the population that would exist (without immigration) had Roe v. Wade gone the other way and no other decision replaced it.

Luckily, the Muslims who don’t believe in women’s rights or gay rights are more than making up for it, and we are living longer, so it doesn’t appear as it really is – that they are going to replace us and our values within our lifetimes if we don’t fight back.

And unless there is an upset, we just put a friend of these enemies of both conservatives and liberals alike into the White House, who will be letting their agenda that is anti-gay, anti-woman, and pro-polygamy advance itself, while we continue to have our little girls get pregnant and abort their children, which destroys not only the unborn child but the spirits of those young ladies as well.

  21. I too have enjoyed coming here Donny. It has caused me to really think about why I think the way I do! Am I just spouting all the things I heard in my growing up years from parents and church or really thinking for myself?

Abortion is murder BUT those who have made it legal aren’t “baby killers” any more than those who have made gun ownership legal! Though I still wish abortion to be illegal.

Also, I have struggled most of my life with porn. While I have had great victories, I still struggle at times. My struggle with porn is another thing that has changed in ways because of being “introduced” to you through XXX Church.

God bless you Donny. Our next President has been decided. Let’s commence to praying our guts out for him and our great country!

On a side note, how great is it that we’ve come far enough as a country that we’ve elected a black man as Commander-in-Chief?!! Here’s to hoping he doesn’t turn out to be the liar I’ve been fearing him to be.

  23. Well it is over- or just beginning.
The fact that Obama is bi-racial is a very positive thing- as for other things about him, we shall soon see. Let’s pray for him and for our country.
John McCain gave a very gracious concession speech.

  25. Dear Donny,
You’re always insightful and always thought provoking, with word pictures and honesty. New twists and turns on thinking and some unresolved as well. That’s what I get from what you write. Of course, it is now a few days since the “people” have spoken, so perhaps something’s don’t matter…at least until they crop up or wield their ugly head. But for now, the “anointed one” as Hannity likes to say, appears to be having thoughtful consideration of what is ahead for him.

I must admit that I did have a brief thought though about the dangers, God forbid, that he will now face by some frustrated disappointed person, who may want to insure that the “anointed one”, loved by many (or at least hoped for by many) around the world, having a landslide vote here, in the midst of a world wide financial crisis, oil being played with by the nations that produce it, and as usual, talk of a new world order needed on the horizon, and so on, suffers a potential mortal wound as is spoken of for the anti-Christ, then is healed, only to ensure that his fan base is secure, came to mind. But of course, unless it actually happens, and the many would be given over to a lie, it all comes across as heresy or conspiracy theories as with past presidents and wars, etc. The sad case with this scenario is if race was ever an issue in this campaign, namely stated by the left, then unfortunately, for such an end to things as we know it could very well come through the hands of one such person. As it is, his campaign was almost destroyed, not by a white man (a.k.a. black liberation theology), but by one of his own in Jeremiah Wright. As I have said to many during the months leading up to the Nov. 4th, it would have been completely wrong for people not to vote for Obama just because he was black, and I’ve heard that from some, but it would have been equally ignorant to vote for him just because he was black, no less the same for voting for Hillary just because she was a woman. He certainly carries himself well, does have a smooth manner, seems confident, and is off and running already…sign of a man that intends to get things done. At least he takes job seriously…much like he would have as a community leader, in order to get things done. Certainly as scripture has declared, we need to pray for our leaders, no less as we should have been for Bush.

I did like your approach in explaining the seduction issue. In media there is also subliminal seduction. All in all, once he sits on the throne, and sees the enormity of the task before him, maybe he’ll reconsider some of his positions…on the other hand, maybe he’ll believe even stronger that his way is the way to go. The chess pieces are in play, now with the liberal aspect of our country also being a majority in both houses, thus, the bases are loaded, there is no telling what “home runs” they may score on behalf of their views. However, given the way the vote went with Prop. 8, it goes to show that on some issues, we’re still conservative as a nation on some issues.

Anyway, lots of good stuff to chew on and think about.
